2018 Report Card: CWA ‘Exceeds Expectations’ Again

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has released its state report cards for the 2017-2018 school year.

We are proud to announce that Capitol West Academy earned an overall accountability score of 73.8, received 4 Stars, and achieved “Exceeds Expectations” status for the second year in a row. Based on this rating, CWA outperforms 78% of Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS).*

Report cards are based on four priority areas:

  1. Student achievement in English language arts and mathematics.CWA scored 15% higher than the MPS average in this category. Our students especially shine in their math achievement, which is 21% higher than the MPS average.
  2. Student growth in ELA and math.CWA scored 23% higher than the MPS average in English Language Arts growth, and 20% higher than the MPS average in Math growth.
  3. Closing gaps in ELA and math. CWA scored 5% higher than the MPS average.
  4. Postsecondary readiness (including attendance, 3rd grade ELA, and 8th grade math indicators). CWA scored 4% higher than the MPS average. CWA students must love to come to school—our attendance score was 7% higher than the MPS average!

These report card results tell us what we have always known: CWA students and teachers strive to be exceptional.

Plus, CWA’s excellence isn’t just measured in achievement and accountability scores; CWA also continues to be recognized as a National School of Character. Teaching the core values of self-control, responsibility, honor and determination remains a high priority in the classrooms of CWA.
